roads. >> good morning. jennifere that ge franciotti is live on the scene at is causing some delays. take garrison avenue instead. there is an accident at edmundson at number carrollton. howard county, there's a road closures because of another fire. the alternate is cedar lane. report of a vehicle fire on northbound 97. we're watching out for that as well. this is the west side of the beltway at liberty road. no problems there to report. we switch over to 95. southbound traffic, no problems there. 83 is checking out good as well. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. back over to you. >> thank you. we have breaking news out of northwest baltimore. there was a two alarm blaze this

morning. >> jennifer franciotti is live at the scene in northwest with more. good morning. >> that fire is under control. firefighters are putting out some hot spots. it looks like a portion of liberty heights was shut down. in looks like traffic has reopened. fire fighters were using a fire hydrant along liberty heights. the fire started about 3:30 this morning on hillsdale. it happened to a vacant house. the intensity of the fire was so big that it's spread to two adjacent homes. one of the homes had been turned into a nursing home with four residents. they were safely evacuated. no injuries reported there. the other house, there was one occupant inside. he got out safely. no one was inside the vacant

house. it did go to two alarms because of the intensity of the fire. firefighters were able to make a good knock on the fire and get everything under control. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. fire equipment remains on the scene. reporting live, jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> it thank you. police are investigating the shooting involving one of their own. officers were called to the kings point square shopping center yesterday for a report of a suspicious man. police encountered the suspect who had parked his suv outside one of the stores. the man attacked the first arriving officer. >> there eventually was a struggle over the officer's weapon, at which time a second officer pulled up to the scene

and shot the suspect in the chest two times. >> the two officers involved are on administrative leave. the suspect is listed in stable condition at shock trauma. >> police have made an arrest in connection with a home invasion. lavar rich was taken into custody on monday on fairfax road in northwest baltimore. police were able to recover the numerous weapons that were stolen from the homes. >> police have three juveniles in custody in connection with a stabbing attack. authorities say the victim was attacked during an attempted robbery while he was walking on st. paul street. the injuries were non-life- threatening. he is recovering at an area hospital.

police have identified a man who was shot back on friday. they say the man was shot around 10:00 p.m. on baker street. he later died at shock trauma. no word on a suspect or a possible motive. >> in washington, the midterm election now kicks into high gear. democrats are fighting to keep control of congress. kate amara has the story. >> it is all about jobs this week for president obama. creating jobs for americans who are out of work, and saving jobs for democrats in congress. president is taking his fight for control of congress on the road. stopping in a crucial battleground states and focused on the economy and jobs. >> i knew it would take time to reverse the damage of a decade

ve >> welcome back. it is a beautiful start for us on this tuesday morning. 69 degrees downtown at the maryland science center. temperatures are a little bit cooler in the suburbs. it is 64 degrees in westminster. 66 degrees in rock hall. we have mostly clear skies. we can see some cloud cover off to the north. there is a warm front cutting across new york state. that will stay north of us. no rain is in our forecast today. we could use some precipitation. it has been pretty dry over the last couple of weeks. there is a slight chance we get some rain in the middle portion of the week. it will warm up and turn more humid a high temperature in the

upper 80's later this afternoon. then a front will come through on wednesday with a slight chance for some rain. back into the 70's. first a brief stop in the tropics. tropical storm hermine came on short a couple of hours ago in texas. it is still a tropical storm with sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. the rain will move up into oklahoma. it has been a hot and dry summer in the plains. we could use some of that rain around here. mostly sunny is the forecast for today. you will see a few high, thin clouds around. high temperatus this afternoon climbing into the upper 80's. partly cloudy tonight and maybe a shower after midnight. temperatures will drop back into the upper 60's. seven-day forecast, the front

things unmoving just fine. we are not seeing any delays. 95 at 100, you can see southbound traffic pretty heavy. no official delays reported. we will keep an eye on that. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> thank you. a fast-moving while fire has destroyed several homes in colorado forcing thousands to evacuate. this was northwest of boulder. 100 firefighters are battling the 45 mile per hour winds that are fanning the flames. more than two dozen horses are dead. this video shows 3 barnes burning early monday morning. 27 horses were killed. the flames shot up as high as 50 feet in the year.

damage to the barnes is estimated at over $1 million. investigators are trying to determine what started the fire. a church plans to burned copies of the koran will only make the situation worse. the church is calling for followers to burn the book in protest. there is growing concern over the rise of anti-muslim sentiment around the country. >> more senior citizens are finding themselves in a working retirement. the study shows 26% of men have returned to the work force. that is up from 20% from two decades before. full-time retirement has changed

because health benefits have been cut back by employers. maybe you have heard money cannot buy happiness. a new report says otherwise. the report indicates people's happiness got better as their income rose, but it leveled off at about $75,000. the sense of success continued to rise as earnings grew beyond that. people are happier on weekends. this sense of well-being did not change. it is a full-court press on the jobs market. jane king has that story and more in the bloomberg business report. >> at a major jobs push from the white house. tomorrow president obama will announce a 100% tax break for businesses buying new equipment. he will urge congress to extend

and expand a tax credit for businesses, something microsoft has been hoping for. the president may call for some kind of payroll tax holiday. there is a program to repair roads and airports and all this aimed at repairing jobs. the white house is launching a program to help struggling mortgage holders who owe more on their homes then they are worth. stocks rising as investors learned private companies added more jobs than expected. the bloomberg maryland index is now on a three-day winning streak. the jobless rate will near 10% in the coming months as the economy fails to produce enough jobs to employ people entering the workforce. there were 8.5 million jobs lost during the recession.

welcome back. i am stan stovall. >> and i'm mindy basara. thank you for joining us this morning. tony pann has a quick look at today's forecast. >> good morning. it was a beautiful holiday weekend weather-wise. now we will turn up the heat. 60's right now. this afternoon, we expect a high temperature of 88 degrees. the heat will not stick around for very long. we will give you the seven-day forecast in just about 5 minutes. now to the news desk. >> thank you. we begin by following a developing story out of northwest baltimore where fire crews are battling a fire. >> the blaze began about two hours ago. jennifer franciotti is live with more details. >> the fire is out and nobody was hurt. traffic is on liberty heights. it is at liberty heights and

hillsdale. that is where you might see the howard park pride sign. the fire happened about 3:30 this morning on hillsdale. it happened inside a vacant house. when firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting out from all sides of this building. they had to fight the fire from the exterior of the building. >> at the height of the fire, it caused damage to a neighboring nursing home that was occupied, as well as another home occupied with one individual. everybody was evacuated and not injured. >> the nursing home has been identified as the true manor nursing home. i spoke with some of the people that lived inside and they were waiting it out to see what it would be cleared to go back in.
